Vacation Day 8

Today we woke up early-got all ready to go hiking to walk outside to rain. Bobby thought he was going to get me on a hike, but at 39 degrees I pulled out all the stops-I said it was too cold for Zach. Finally, Bobby agreed and we got back in the car and did a little more looking around in the car. We got to see a few more new animals today. We saw TWO BEARS!! A mama moose with her baby, lots of elk, and some ducks. Finally we had a picnic lunch in the back of the Denali (it was still raining) and watched part of Over the Hedge. At the end of lunch it finally stopped raining so we headed back over to the trail. By this time it had warmed up to 49 degrees and the sun was starting to come out. So we got Zach in his backpack and loaded him on Bobby's back and off to our 1.9 mile hike we went. At the beginning of our hike we saw some scat (animal poop to those of you non animal people) Bobby informed us quickly that one of them was Elk, but the other Bobby and I both thought was bear. We didn't have our Who Pooped in the Park book that Nana bought Madison last year to verify it, but we were pretty sure. For the rest of the hike our eyes and ears were peeled-making sure we were safe. We got to see some beautiful scenery on our hike-we hiked around Jenny lake up to a waterfall. After a 3 1/5 hour hike-okay so we went farther than our initial 1.9 miles originally planned we headed back to the car and then headed to dinner. The restaurant that we went to had a gift shop that had the book and yep-Bobby & I were right-it was a Bear. Good thing we didn't run into it! I like seeing them from the car-however-we did see a couple from Mississippi that got out of their truck to sneak up on the bear for a better picture-can you say STUPID!! Sorry-I mean silly. We're back at the Lodge enjoying the beautiful view for one last night. We're getting up early again tomorrow to head about an hour to Yellowstone. I tried to post a few pictures from today, but its not letting me... I'll try again later
