Room Update

We actually really started getting things ready yesterday. Friday with a trip to Lowe's and a wonderful date night we only spent about 3 hours on the furniture so we didn't get very far. So Saturday morning I woke up and headed straight outside. This time I got a little smarter and put down a big piece of plastic instead of trying to piece together newspaper. Everything was set out and had its first coat of Soy-gel on it by about 10am. We started scraping and to our amazement we realized that Soy Gel works great if you let it sit for about 45 minutes or so. If you planning on refinishing furniture this is your product if you have kids. I worked most of yesterday without gloves, and Zach accidentally put his hand in it several times. It doesn't burn and there is no smell to it! Bobby saw it on the DIY network and it was worth every penny of it. So after a days work everything is scraped down to the bare wood--one of the dressers is about 50 years old! I can't tell you how many times we have painted this piece without stripping it-I would say there was at least 10-15 coats of paint of it. The other dresser I bought at a garage sale and I'm not sure what they had painted over, but it looked like sticky from tape-and the paint on the whole dresser was just gooey! It was so nasty. The drawers to that dresser are done, but the dresser itself just needs to be sanded. And I forgot to bring Madison's bookshelf outside so Bobby will sand that this afternoon when we come home from church. I can't wait to see the finished product--actually I just can't wait to be DONE! Madison is going to love it! So for now he's the update...

The tan paint is the original paint--from FIFTY years ago finished drawer
Dresser-this is the one my mom's brither had growing up. You can see the paint bubbling upReady to be sanded!

Bobby worked hard outside with me all day getting everything ready. Thank you Bobby!
